## Two Modes, One Body

Conventional nutritional advice treats your body like a calculator: calories in, calories out, in other words “to lose weight, eat less and move more”. New evidence is showing this is broken. Your body doesn’t run on arithmetic. It runs on hormonal signalling that shifts between two very different modes: one built for storing fuel, one built for releasing it. What you eat, and when, is what tips the balance.

This book is built around eating plenty for energy, and knowing how to press the switch to release your body fat.

- **Energise** feeds the fuel-storing mode: higher carb, built for training, replenishment and performance.

- **Release** works with the fuel-releasing mode: higher protein, lower carb, built for appetite control and fat loss.

**A note on the numbers:** every recipe lists protein, carbs, fat and calories per serving, plus a one-line highlight on what it’s doing for you nutritionally. Use them to navigate, not to obsess. The figures are estimates and may not be accurate, so use them as a guide only.

**Go deeper:** Fat Loss… Organised teaches the techniques step by step to switch your body into fat release mode, bringing the recipes into action in a practical way.

- ½ cup finely chopped green beans

- ¼ cup small-chopped carrot

- ¼ cup small-chopped pumpkin

- 2 tsp rock salt

- **Topping:** ¼ cup finely chopped coriander, 1 tbsp reserved sesame seeds

### 13. Sabzi

- **Gravy:** 2 medium tomatoes

- 1/2 cup chopped coconut

- 1 small green chilli

- 1 tsp grated ginger

- 1 tsp roasted cumin powder

- 1 tsp rock salt

**Method**

- Choose 1 or 2 seasonal vegetables. Soak in water for about 2 hours to reduce the impact of chemicals in the vegetables.

- Peel and chop the vegetables and place in a clay pot along with some water. Close the lid and let them cook until soft.

- Meanwhile, prepare the gravy. Place all the gravy ingredients in a small blender jar and blend until smooth.

- Switch off the stove and combine the gravy with the vegetables. Cover with the lid and let the gravy cook in the steam in the pot for 10 minutes. Top with lots of chopped coriander and serve.

*Tip: Soaking vegetables for 2 hours before cooking reduces pesticide residue. A clay pot is ideal for this recipe as it creates gentle, even heat – but a regular pot works fine.*
